"The more you know, the more you can create. There’s no end to imagination in the kitchen." ~ Julia Child
I have a love for food, typically it is creating it more than eating. To me food is essentially what brings people together and where memories are made. We can all remember when we had that amazing burger, or to die for deep fried candy bar. My first deep fried candy bar was in Orlando at the old Disney Pleasure Island. I had this deep friend snickers bar from this Irish pub of all places. To this day it is a memory I fondly remember and realized you really can deep fry chocolate. We all have this type of memory and if you do not well, I highly suggest you go make a food memory now.
I took my love for food and went to culinary school, then opened a small catering company and moved onto a meal prep company. While I learned a ton about being self-employed, I also learned that food truly is the one vehicle to get to know everyone. I have helped some along the way on their food dreams and questioned why I even tried to manifest a food business as the work you put into it is plain exhausting. Being that I have lupus, while cooking is enjoyable it is also painful and wears me down. Yet, I always find my way back to wanting to create something magical with flavor and taste. And yes, you need to have the gift of taste to bring the best of flavor out in your food. Otherwise, you just have food that is edible and that is no fun memory. But do not fret, there are many books and websites that can help you put a flavor profile together to make every meal amazingly delish.
This leads me to my thought process, what does one do that loves creating food but having a food business is honestly detrimental to their health. I have been asked to give recipes and told I should write a cookbook; problem is I never knew where to start. You see, I am a cook who ads a bit of this and tad of that. I have tried to home in on exact measurements and well I was just too lazy. Plus, it adds to the idea that no one can make food the way I make it. Then I wonder is that even the idea of food bringing joy to faces, by keeping my secrets and recipes to myself or would it take away from the magic I create in the kitchen? One of my famous techniques is taking an almost bare pantry, refrigerator and freezer and creating a meal that can feed a family of 4-6. Maybe that is my area of expertise that needs to be highlighted. But how do you teach people to use what they have and create something of their own?
Is this knowledge book worthy or blog worthy? Do I set up a website, a Facebook page or find a publisher? So many questions for a mind that just cannot start writing and let it all fall into place. My mind needs to know the way, the plan, the intricate makings of something successful. Which is interesting considering I have no idea how much Thyme I put in that recipe..lol I suppose I just need to start with my idea and let it manifest itself into something amazing. Just like when I cook, it does not always turn out magical, sometimes it is a dump and order in meal. But I wouldn’t have created amazing taste profiles if I didn’t just try it, right? So here goes my let’s get this down on paper and make something delish for dinner book.
