In with the new out with the old! Cheers to a New Year and a new me! You have 365 days to write a new book. Theses statements reflect most of the attitudes going into the new year. Many will make resolutions, changes and start new habits. Grand ideas and plans that will almost prove fruitless in many cases. Yet for some reason year after year, we stick to the same routine. Lets all agree 2020, was one year we all wish to forget but, is that really the best way to start new?

We cannot rewrite history or our pasts, while we can dictate the story of our future the reality is with the unforeseen twists, turns and deep potholes can we really keep our destination in focus? It all sounds so healing, making a resolution list of how we want to start the year off with goals, aspirations, and the desire to have the best year yet. But we cannot forget what the prior year showed us, taught us and most off where it left us off for our “new” destination. This is where we fail…every time. I have never been one to make a resolution list but like many I am always ready to start the new year off right with drastic changes and plans. This year I went into it having fun laughing and not worrying about the cool gym membership I would only waste my money on or what I was going to write on my first page of the 365-page book. Instead, I took a few days to reflect on 2020 and think of plans I had started in 2020 and want to fulfill hopefully by the end of this year. I am an Aquarian I have these grand ideas and horrible follow through. Yet, I am steadfast in my will to achieve a lifelong dream of mine and it was not starting on January 1!

If we constantly forget what the prior year did and brought us, we will forever chase the best story we ever wrote. That is a fruitless journey that can be quite exhausting honestly. Step back, breathe and just think to where you left off and make sure your next steps are on the same path but with better vision. We cannot simply change our path to leave the bad stuff behind, we must continue that path and find the right or left turn to continue a better path. When you simply jump paths, you are leaving that one path behind with no clue if your new path will cross over the old and leave you bewildered, confused and then you find yourself on that same old path you jumped off. Trust me on this, its better to work through that path and find the turn onto the better than before path.

Creating new paths is like adding new exit ramps to the same highway, you will end up back on the highway to hell if you do not pay attention to what is behind you. So, do not make fruitless resolutions, yet solve the one you had not addressed last year and find a way to a better you by facing what you are running from. Bet you did not see this read turning into a self-reflection on where you were and where you want to be. Yes, it is always good to start new habits but not on a whim because that is what you are supposed to do when the ball drops. Start new habits because your soul needs it, or your life needs balance. Starting new habits means you must be willing to release something from your past. I can attest to the fact if you just start something new in hopes of something better you will circle around leaving the new habit behind staring at the old ways and feeling like a failure.

Keep the path you were on in 2020 and seek to find a better way of walking or even a new path shooting off the one you are on. Do this with humility and reflection on yourself and the ones you surround yourself with. I spent a lot of time towards the end of the year alone, finding my inner self, not a new self but my inner self. I had learned to let go and learned that no matter what potholes I encounter I can continue my path to my destination. I know I will not reach my destination in 365 days, because, if I did it was not a destination it was simply a goal. When you only focus on the goals you lose sight of your destination. So, find a destination and make goals along the way. Here is to turning the page to a new chapter not a new book.
