Protecting the Line: Homefront Battle

I was going to write about something entirely different today. Then a verse came across my phone. “Blesses are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” Matthew 5:9. To me this verse resonates to Police and Military, as I see them as the peacemakers, we all need in life. With the inauguration coming up this week, we all know our Capitol is on heightened security. While one side likes to blame the other, I have tried to keep my political views out of any commentary. I have seen friends and people on Facebook go at each other with such ignorance, violence, and pure disgust. Honestly, it has put the bible in my hands more because this country needs serious prayer. Our country is so divided it is disheartening.

I have tried to understand everyone’s views and many times I just cannot explain the logic in speaking to someone else with such hatred and disgust. Today I Martin Luther King Jr Day and honestly, he probably rolling in his grave over how we are all treating each other. It is beyond a race disparity anymore. We have all become so immune to empathy by being quarantined and speaking over the internet that we have lost all regard for our own neighbors, family and loved ones. Letting politics pollute our mind to the point of a Homefront battle against each other. We have entered sad times and the future looks so bleak. Our Capitol is surrounded and protected by thousands of our military men and women, aka the “peacekeepers”. The police are also on heightened patrol all over the country for any unrest that may occur during the inauguration. These men and women chose to serve and protect, while there are some bad seeds, that goes with any job and race. We cannot hate all police officer over a few bad ones just as we cannot hate a race over a few reckless ones. What I am confused with is where did our integrity and respect go as Americans?

I was organizing my files and came across two videos of my ex, who is a police officer, when he was ambushed and shot sitting in his patrol car. It was a scary sad reminder of what our police officers face daily. The war on police has existed for quite some time and seemed we were starting to turn a corner with respecting them. Now we have our military being attacked by Americans who want a face, a body, an individual to point a finger to and attack for the election results. These men and women are husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, and parents, yet they are being attacked for doing their job. As a military mom, it breaks my heart to see Americans acting as fools these days. I can only pray the occurrences and activities this coming week to be peaceful and safely protect the ones we look to for protection.

When will Americans realize we have created a battlefield right here on our own soil, no immigrant, no foreign terrorists did this, the average fellow American Citizen created this divide? Sure, we can blame politics all we want. My vote was not the chosen one, but I have yet to blame my neighbor or friend and the only ones I have lost are ones who I just cannot be around such hatred and ugliness. When will we start to put aside our differences and learn to live cohesively with opposite views? When we see our country falling into a divide and chaos, when we will stop and say I will not participate in the destruction of a country built on dreams, aspirations, and freedom. Yes Freedom! We are destroying the idea of freedom and what our military fought so hard to provide us! I can only pray that the next four years is not the end of what we knew as America, but a learning tool and steppingstone into the America I grew up loving and still love today, no matter who the president is.

I challenge each one of you to not post anything hateful against a political party, not to quarrel with another over political views. Instead spread something positive and uplifting. I know some are taking a hiatus from Facebook due to the destruction and chaos, but this is when we need the positivity, not heads turned the other way. We cannot simply pray in the solace of our homes and shut off the news. We will never make a change for the better if we continue to fight the battle alone. So spread positivity, love, and prayer with someone today. Let them know even though there are political differences we are all still the same friends we were 6 months ago. Stop the Homefront battle and thank police officers and military personnel when you see them. We are the only ones responsible for this war waged on our country by our own citizens.
